API Handling

API handling is a huge challenge; these substances are highly toxic (i.e. carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic “CMR”) and very expensive. The inherent problems of open and gravity charging, not least the challenge of containment, make a more sophisticated solution highly desirable. Active charging is the ideal solution, with Dec’s PTS (Powder Transfer System) at the heart of the concept.


Material Handling
The choice of the containment philosophy impacts directly on operational flexibility and efficiency, so it should be easily upgradeable to higher containment level and adaptable to different packaging.

Dec provides complete solutions for safe and efficient handling of all kinds of powders and different packaging. Solutions for raw or intermediate material handling include bag, drum and big bag emptying and filling, with adaptable levels of containment.
 
Reactor Charging
Many industries still load reactors with powder manually through an open manhole, thus provoking injuries and even fatalities. The patented PTS (Powder Transfer System) simply, safely and economically transfers and dispenses powders, even those with difficult flow characteristics. For maximum safety vacuum and nitrogen pressure prevent explosions.

Seeding
Reaction control impacts on quality and productivity when adding small quantities (such as catalysts) during pharmaceutical production. The SCC (Single Charge Container) connected to the PTS ensures that a precise amount of additive is added under containment into a reaction at a specific moment.
 
Centrifuge Discharge
The difficulties associated with discharging wet powders from a centrifuge include lumpy and poor flowing product, where blocking and product loss are inevitable. Safety issues arise when handling powders in the presence of solvents, whilst containment of increasingly reactive and toxicity of products.

Filling and Discharging Dryers
Contained filling or discharging of a dryer under GMP manner is often a challenge owing to lack of space, limited headroom or poor access under and around the equipment. Dec has designed contained discharge systems for either complete heel removal or direct discharge and dosing into packaging allowing in some cases the avoidance of the emptying of the filter dryer through the plug valve.

Dec’s Pack-Off systems manage a range of packaging, from single inflatable seals to continuous liners integrated in a glove box. Modular packaging systems are available for different containment and process requirements, including sterile applications. Accurate weighing systems, combined with appropriate dosing equipment such as a rotary valve or PTS Feeder ensures precise filling of all packaging.
